Medequip Connect provide services to over 10,000 people nationwide with the objective of providing reassurance and support to older, disabled or vulnerable people allowing them to remain safely in their own home.

About the role

As the Occupational Therapist (TEC) for Medequip Connect, you will be undertaking assessments for TEC cases, and providing advice and support to non-professional assessment staff in their roles. You will support the National Clinical Lead for TEC in the development of assessment processes and functions for Connect, including new product research and best practice guidance across the service. You will support operational teams with service delivery, overseeing safeguarding queries and helping to ensure compliance with both local and national guidance and requirements

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

  • Case Management
    • Hold an independent caseload of service users within the Rotherham TEC service and from other Medequip Connect TEC services nationally as required.
    • Assess service users via a series of video and/or face-to-face appointments as required, with the aim to provide TEC supporting SU safety, wellbeing and independence, according to agreed local criteria and guidance.
    • Prescribe equipment as required, arranging trials where appropriate.  Prescriptions will include appropriate technical detail to ensure correct provision/ installation by TEC Installer Assessors.
    • Provide instruction and training to ensure complex equipment is used safely. This may be to service user, service user’s family, and/or service user’s carers and other associated health and social care professionals
    • Conduct reviews of service users to evaluate trials, or ensure that equipment is safe and being used optimally from both a clinical and technical point of view
    • Work in varied locations across our region to visit service users as Medequip Connect’s contract portfolio operates nationally.
    • Maintain accurate case records and support audits as required.
    • Provide expert assessment advice, and support to other clinical / assessment staff within the team on more complex cases.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • To be a subject matter expert in TEC to support and help develop best practice policies, protocols and quality risk assessment frameworks, ensuring good clinical governance and safe working practices.
    • Keep updated with developments in TEC, utilising best practice, new product innovations, and evidenced based practice.
    • Work with 3rd party TEC suppliers to keep up to date with their product ranges, and understand how their products can be integrated and customised to provide optimal solutions to individual service user cases
    • Support National Clinical Lead for TEC and the Technical Support Manager to ensure best quality product information is available to prescribers and customers to support selection and understanding of equipment.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for service users and carers
    • Have a good working knowledge and understanding of the range of equipment issued by the service and be confident and competent in its use and limitations. This includes:
      • Assistive technologies such as alarms and trigger devices
      • Various sensors to detect events such as falls, fire, flood, etc.
      • Activities for Daily Living (ADL) sensors designed to detect movement, mobility levels, routine changes, electrical device/appliance usage, heat and light changes, etc.
      • ADL AI/Machine learning platforms
      • Video calling and medication compliance solutions
      • Home automation and property ingress/egress solutions
      • Mobile devices and GPS enabled technologies
  • Managerial and other
    • Utilise supervision, training opportunities and reflective practice to ensure own professional development and accreditation.
    • Supervise the work of TEC Installer Assessors and assist with the supervision of OT students and assistants as required.
    • Support Rotherham TEC Installer Assessors to provide safe, compliant, and caring services through delivery of protocols, guidance, risk assessments and competency frameworks.
    • To be the Safeguarding champion for the Rotherham TEC service, liaising with National Clinical Lead for TEC, Medequip’s DSL and all relevant external bodies as required.
    • Take part in audits (such as the annual TSA audits)
    • Take part in research as directed by the National Clinical Lead for TEC
    • Lead on specific projects as directed by the National Clinical Lead for TEC.
    • Attend team meetings as required, to ensure that local, team, and national policies are followed. Contribute to development of new policies.
    • Support and facilitate equipment review groups for stakeholders in Rotherham TEC as required.
    • Play a leading role in developing and reporting on Benefits realisation for Rotherham TEC to demonstrate the impact of TEC for contract monitoring and wider Health and Social care systems.

Qualifications and experience required.

  • Diploma or Degree in OT
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Post qual experience at a senior level
  • Ability to complete complex TEC assessments and risk assessments
  • Full UK Driving Licence
