About the role

As the Community Equipment Technician for Medequip Assistive Technology Ltd, you will ensure the right equipment, in the right condition, is delivered and installed for service users in an appropriate and caring manner.

You will complete deliveries, collections and installations within specified timeframes and in line with agreed service standards, specifications and performance targets.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Reporting to your line manager and providing updates on deliveries, collections, installations and any issues encountered
  • Delivering, collecting and installing disability equipment in community settings, including service users’ homes, hospitals and health centres
  • Driving a large van and completing all mandatory daily and weekly vehicle checks
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle, both inside and outside
  • Loading equipment into the van safely and securing items appropriately
  • Completing multiple deliveries and collections each day, including beds and other large or heavy equipment
  • Providing a polite, empathetic and service user-focused service
  • Communicating sensitively with service users who may be vulnerable, bereaved, distressed or experiencing difficult circumstances
  • Understanding and demonstrating the correct functionality and safe use of equipment
  • Installing equipment safely and in accordance with company processes
  • Identifying damaged or faulty equipment and determining whether items require repair or replacement
  • Identifying and immediately reporting any safeguarding concerns to your line manager
  • Undertaking dynamic risk assessments before completing deliveries, installations, modifications or other duties
  • Seeking further guidance where there is a potential risk of injury to yourself, a service user or another person
  • Ensuring service users are not placed at risk during any delivery, collection or installation
  • Following Medequip processes, particularly when loading and unloading equipment
  • Using a scanner or electronic device to complete jobs and update notes and comments
  • Keeping prescribers and the depot informed of progress throughout the working day
  • Adhering to agreed delivery and collection timeslots
  • Liaising with service users and line management when agreed timeslots cannot be met
  • Participating in the on-call rota and providing out-of-hours cover when required
  • Maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance
  • Wearing the required company uniform and identification at all times
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties required to meet the needs of the business

Qualifications and experience required

Essential

  • Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a public, healthcare or service-based industry role
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Minimum of 3 years’ driving experience
  • No more than 3 penalty points on your driving licence
  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • Demonstrably safe driving record
  • Ability to safely drive and navigate a large van
  • Ability to successfully complete a driving assessment
  • Smart, professional appearance and polite manner
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy and patience during service user visits
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain a positive attitude in difficult situations and when working under pressure
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills
  • IT literate and comfortable using scanners and other electronic devices
  • Physically capable of undertaking regular manual handling and heavy lifting
  • Practical DIY skills
  • Organised and able to follow agreed processes
  • Ability to manage your own workload and work without direct supervision
  • Flexibility regarding working hours
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota, with consideration given to individual personal circumstances

Desirable

  • GCSE standard education including Maths and English, minimum Grade C/4 or equivalent
  • Previous experience delivering, collecting or installing community equipment
  • Experience working with older, vulnerable or disabled service users
  • Experience driving a large commercial vehicle
  • Knowledge of safe manual handling practices
  • Experience using handheld scanners or electronic job management systems
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures
  • Experience completing dynamic risk assessments
